Preacher: AMSE Kingsley Shola Adeyinka
1st Lesson : Nehemiah 9:1-20
2nd Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:1-18
Introduction
Purpose is a divine assignment. However, sometimes, our understanding of purpose can seem absurd or illogical from a human perspective. Many people serve God with the assumption that their actions align with His will, yet they fail to recognize if God acknowledges their service. Today, we will explore the absurdity of purpose and what it truly means to serve God in spirit and in truth.
Key Lessons
- The Purpose of Serving God
Serving God is not just about religious activities or self-defined righteousness; it is about surrendering to His will. Many people work in the church, preach, or help others but lack the divine approval of God. True service must align with His purpose. - God’s Immense Power
The story of David and Goliath illustrates that God’s power surpasses all human strength. While Goliath relied on weapons, David relied on God’s word. Victory is not about physical might but about spiritual alignment with God. - Friendship in the Church
In God’s house, friendships should not take precedence over the truth. Sometimes, in the name of fellowship, we compromise and allow distractions that take us away from God’s purpose. Serve God for Him, not for human connections. - Anxiety and Surrender
Many believers are troubled and anxious about different aspects of life, but Jesus reminds us that only one thing is truly needed—surrendering to God’s will and His word (Luke 10:41-42). - Divine Selection and Prophetic Guidance
When God is interested in someone, He raises a prophet to guide them. This is evident throughout scripture—God sends messengers to deliver His people and set them on the right path. - The Influence of Unbelievers
Who you surround yourself with matters. The company of unbelievers can lead one away from righteousness. The Bible warns us not to be unequally yoked with those who do not share our faith (2 Corinthians 6:14). - God Requires Righteousness
God will not abide with anyone who does not abide in Him. Living in righteousness is not an option but a necessity for those who desire God’s presence. - Does God Recognize Your Service?
It is not enough to serve; one must serve acceptably. Many do the work of God but lack divine recognition. Jesus warned that many would call Him ‘Lord’ but would be rejected because they did not truly do the will of the Father (Matthew 7:21-23). - Renouncing Evil
Evil exists, but it is up to each person to reject it. The grace of God gives us the power to renounce sin, yet many continue to walk in disobedience. - Building on Grace, Not Destroying It
Instead of growing in faith and righteousness, some misuse grace as an excuse to continue in sin. However, God’s righteousness demands accountability.
Reflection
- Are you truly serving God, or are you just engaged in religious activities?
- Does your service align with God’s will, or is it self-driven?
- Have you fully surrendered your anxieties to God, or are you still troubled by many things?
- Is your lifestyle a reflection of God’s righteousness?

Conclusion
The absurdity of purpose is that many think they are serving God when they are not truly in alignment with Him. God is interested in us, but He requires us to serve Him rightly. True victory lies in relying on God’s power, just as David did against Goliath. May we all seek to build on God’s grace rather than destroy it through disobedience.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your word today. Help us to serve You in truth and righteousness. Deliver us from misplaced priorities and guide us in Your purpose. May our lives reflect Your will, and may our service be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
